Green mould

Different kinds of mould

There are many different varieties of mould that grow in an array of colours such as green, black, white, orange and blue. Some strains of mould are more harmful than others, and one particular strain of mould can grow in a variety of colours, depending on different circumstances. This makes it difficult to identify exactly which strain of mould is growing in your home, and therefore it is hard to determine whether or not you should be worried.

Generally, it is best to get rid of all kinds of moul before it spreads and either you or your family members become ill.

Causes of damp and mould

Damp and mould are caused by excess moisture. Moisture in buildings can be caused by leaking pipes, rising damp in basements or ground floors, or rain seeping in because of damage to the roof or around window frames.

Mold Mildew: Where Does it Lurk?

Most molds are microscopic fungi that grow on a host surface, like a loaf of bread or a musty, kitchen cabinet. The green mold you see on an old loaf of bread is not one mol but is actually clusters of hundreds of connected networks of mold.

Why Does Mould in a Wardrobe Need Special Attention?

When dealing with mould on windowsills or walls, one of the best removal methods involves using Domestos bleach products. Always follow the directions on the label and test any product in a small area first. You can use Domestos Bleach Spray, or you can mix one part Domestos bleach with parts water and scrub away at the mouldy areas (while wearing protective gloves and a mask, of course) using a stiff-bristled brush.

Are any food molds beneficial?

Yes, molds are used to make certain kinds of cheeses and can be on the surface of cheese or be developed internally. Blue veined cheese such as Roquefort, blue, Gorgonzola, and Stilton are created by the introduction ofP. roquefortiorPenicillium roquefortispores. Cheeses such as Brie and Camembert have white surface molds.

Other cheeses have both an internal and a surface mold. The molds used to manufacture these cheeses are safe to eat.
